ABOUT TYPES OF BEAMS AND EXAMPLES

 WHAT ARE TYPES OF BEAMS ?

• Based on the type of supports used, the beams are classified as follows:

1. Simply supported Beam :

      (i) both the hinged supports, or (ii) both the roller supports, or (iii) one hinged and one roller support,is known as simply supported beam.

       

      2. Fixed Beam:

      A beam with both the supports fixed  is known as fixed beam.

   

      3.Cantilever Beam :

      A beam with one end fixed and other end free is known as cantilever beam.

      4. Propped Cantilever Beam :

     A beam with one end fixed and other  end simply supported is known  as propped cantilever beam.

      5. Continuous Beam:

      

      A beam supported at more than two locations is known as connuous beam.
