ABOUT RIGID FLANGE COUPLING

 WHAT IS RIGID FLANGE COUPLING?

  • A rigid flange coupling consists of two flanges-one keyed to the driver shaft and the other to the driven shaft.
  • One of the flanges has a projected portion and the other has a corresponding recess. This helps to bring two shafts in line and maintain the alignment.
  • The two flanges are coupled together by means of bolts and nuts. The number of bolts used is generally three, four, or six. The two keys are staggered at right angles along the circumference of the shafts.
  • The flanges are made of cast iron, cast steel, or steel.
  • The riding flange coupling is of three types:
  1. Unprotected type rigid flange coupling;
  2. Protected type rigid flange coupling;
  3. Marine type rigid flange coupling.
