ABOUT DIFFERENNTIAL SCREW
WHATS IS DIFFERENTIAL SCREW ?
In some precision equipments, very slow movement of the screw is required. The slow movement of the screw also gives high mechanical advantage. This can be achieved by the use of small pitch. However, the small pitch results in weak threads and hence may not be able to withstand the load. In order to achieve the very slow advancement of the screw without reducing the pitch, a diffierential screw is used.
Differential screw consists of two in series having same hands, arranged such that the resultant motion is the difference of individual motions of the two screws. The differential screw, consists of the lower screw with pitch
- When the handle attached to the nut is turned through one revolution in clockwise direction viewed from top, the top screw advances by a distance in upward direcion.
